Jean-Marie Beauchemin visits the logging camps
Bishop Couturier visits the logging camps
In February 1957 and 1958, Bishop Couturier, accompanied by Father Jean-Marie Beauchemin, visited logging camps on the North Shore. These visits show the bishop’s close connection with workers, who were often far from their families and parishes.

Meeting the forestry workers
Photographs from 1958 show Bishop Couturier being welcomed at the camp, talking with the men, sharing meals, and celebrating with them. Father Jean-Marie Beauchemin accompanies him on this pastoral visit.
Logging camps brought together workers from far away, in places rarely reached by pastoral visitors. By returning two years in a row, the bishop showed his concern for their living conditions and community.
These archives complement Father Lucien Bourque’s account of a winter mission among loggers in 1932–1933. They offer a view of another era in the camps and show the continuity of Eudist ministry among North Shore workers.
