Forming priests, serving communities
In 1912, the provincial vicar, Father Prosper Lebastard, began building an Eudist formation house in Bathurst to accommodate the juvenate, novitiate, and seminary. The plan did not come to fruition: his successor, Father Charles Lebrun, decided in 1921 to establish Sacred Heart College in the building and to buy land in Charlesbourg, near Québec City, for a seminary.
In September 1923, the Eudist novices and seminarians, who had been living at the Blessed John Eudes House in Bathurst, moved into the new Sacred Heart Seminary. Generations of Eudist novices and seminarians received their formation there. The institution closed in 1966.
